The nation's 39 federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs) assist government agencies with scientific research and analysis, and many also provide training opportunities for the country's aspiring researchers and scientists through postdoctoral appointments. According to the National Science Foundation's 2010 Survey of Postdocs at FFRDCs, 3,011 postdocs were employed at 22 FFRDCs.
